The hardest thing in this world is to listen to yourself. Because we usually mistake voices from the mind for voices from the soul.
A question that helps identify ideas coming from our soul is: Does it make your body expand? It's not about feeling good or comfortable. It's about feeling expanded, greater, immense, and even infinite. This technique was introduced in I Hope I Screw This Up by Kyle Cease. It must be among the most impactful books in my 20s.

A funny and unexpectedly enlightening book by Kyle Cease |
I once lost my wallet with quite a lot of money. I feel lighter, abundant, and limitless, imagining that others are also me, not separated from me, so when my money turns into theirs I actually don't lose anything. Perhaps expanding ourselves to include and tolerate everything is how to end suffering.
But aren't I already everything? I'm both good and bad, happy and sad, the opposites of every spectrum.
My mind tells me I'm just a little human in this big world, identified by a name, an age, a place of origin, and many other labels. It makes me feel small and helpless. Should I keep buying its story?
All spiritual books I've read recently said that, the mind is full of illusions - worries, fears, and memories. So tune into your senses instead. See what is in front of you. Listen. Touch. Taste. Wake up to your reality eventually. Realize you're safe, loved, gifted, and capable of anything. Follow the expansive feeling in your body. It leads to where you're meant to be, where you're free, lack nothing, and fully connected with your true self.
Your mind will keep spinning distracting thoughts and emotions. Let it. But don't listen to it, believe it, and follow it into worries or fears anymore.
