Hei syyskuu. Hei sateinen ja pilvinen päivät. Onko sininen taivas todella poissa kesän kanssa?? I miss the Finnish blue sky... Will it come back any time soon?
Tänä aamupäivällä I finally understood how to tell time in Finnish after this video by KatChats - my current favorite channel for bite-sized lessons.
Telling time in Finnish is tricky for English speakers because Finns normally say "twenty to eleven" instead of "ten forty". Kat explains very well and briefly. I can easily tell time now!
Kello on kakskyt vaille yks ja mulla on nälkä.
About telling date, ChatGPT taught me in less than 5 minutes. Tänään on ensimmäinen syyskuuta. Huomenna on toinen syyskuuta. Eilen oli kolmaskymmenesensimmäinen elokuuta. In this AI era, all you need to know is how to ask. *chuckle*
I bet it'll explain to you better than me so I won't try to teach you here. Just sharing my progress. Hope other learners (like you?) can have someone to relate on this bumpy Finnish learning journey. Feel free to share your experience in the comments with everyone or just with me in private message.
It does get easier. Trust me, brave beginner, I've been there. Finnish literally made me cry a few times in the initial phase. That part was the most frustrating. But it's a good news. Hyvä uutinen. Things will only get better later on.
Oh yay I just went out to do the laundry and saw fluffy white clouds returning! The blue is back.
